A thunder broke the child’s dream and brought him back to reality.

He put on his slippers and trudged along to the window. It was closed.

The lock was beyond the reach of his hands. Squeezing his small eyelids through a slit in the pane, he looked outside. There was darkness all around.

His eyes revolved to scan through the entire horizon to find any hint of light, but there was none. Only sound. The sound of the roaring sea with waves splashing against each other.

The small ones came now and then without any pattern. But the big ones seemed to come at regular intervals.

A big wave passed in front of him. He stood there patiently waited for the next one. Another one came by. He noticed how its arrival engulfed everything else in the path and brought the roaring noise to momentary silence.

The ocean was filled with smaller waves again. The boy watched the waves continuously without blinking his eyes. That night, the moon was full and the surface of the ocean shone in its silvery light.

One day he would be out there, sailing alone, exploring the great oceans. Maybe not today, but one day.

He had that patience. After all, life had just begun and there was plenty of time ahead. He knew that this would be his mission for the rest of his life.

But he did not haste. He looked at the waves for a while longer. Then he turned around and went to lie on the bed. His eyes gazed at the ceiling.

Today he could not live his dream. Today, he could only dream of his life.

We all have that one dream from childhood that we never really got to achieve. It was the one pristine moment of life when you were probably the most resolved about your future.

The creativity had never been reined in, ideas never smothered. For all you know, there was no limit to what you could do in this life.

I remember the dreams from my childhood. They are still vivid in the nooks and corners of my now adulterated brain. Do you remember them?

Happiness comes not from possessions, but experiences. And the experiences that made you happy as a child are exactly what you need as an adult.

I have made a resolve today – I’m going to pursue all those dreams. We must never forget our childhood because they were the most honest versions of ‘Us’.

Go back to the time you saw the waves of the ocean and thought to yourself – that’s what I want to do.
